the very very latest news.......
Monday 26th March.......
The first instrument to be made in the studio is a 16 inch viola of my own design. I have created the outline with the lower bouts proportionally slightly wider usual with the aim of increasing the air volume without having to increase the length. Careful consideration will be placed on the rib heights and arching heights.
Today I measured and weighed the timber for the front and back to determine the relative densities and I was surprised to discover just how relatively low in density the front is....... More careful measurements ahead!
For those who are interested in learning a little (or a lot) about violin making, I provide bespoke one-to-one violin making lessons from the studio. For more information please see my teaching page and if you would like to see my experience and qualifications as a teacher, you are most welcome to visit my linked in page.
